Legacy

So with the passing of Larry H. Miller and all of the good he did for people and his community, it really got Ron and I thinking. We wondered what sort of legacy we are leaving for our children. Now I know that there wont be press conferences and thousands of people talking about me when I go, and I'm OK with that, but what will my kids have to say. We wondered if we have taught them to serve others, to put God first in their lives, to be nice to everyone.

Also I read in the paper the other day where someone I went to high school with died of a heart attack. I know I'm getting old, but this put where I am in life in prospective. I think I need to step up my game and try to be the kind of person I want my kids to remember.

My Dad passed away at 61. He was so loving and kind and really his whole life was serving others. He never met a stranger. Everyone felt like they were his best friend when they got done talking to him, because he really cared about people, and I mean all people. Homeless on the street to millionaires making a business deal, all were equal and he treated them that way. I loved that about him.

It makes you wonder, doesn't it, what we are doing with this life we've been given. How we are affecting others we come across. Most importantly how we are affecting our children and loved ones. Something to think about, which I have been doing a lot of this last week.

MY VALENTINE!!!

This is my Valentine!!

In honor of the day of Love, I thought I might share a few things about the man I love. Romance novels have nothing on Ron. Everyday he does something romantic. Sometimes it's just a text to say he loves me. Other times he brings me flowers to let me know he appreciates me. He actually does this quite often especially in the winter, because he knows how much I love flowers and that I miss my gardens in the winter. One of Kimmy's guy friends walked in once and I had beautiful flowers on the table, he said how are we ever suppose to compete with that you have flowers every time I come over. I had to coach Dan when he married Maegan and let him know that she has seen her father do so many thoughtful things she will think that that is what all marriages are like. Ron started Valentines gifts on Monday and everyday he has done something thoughtful. Today he brought me flowers and chocolates, he also gave his girls flowers. He is so fun to be around and keeps us laughing all the time. He has a big heart and is very compassionate. Everyday I feel so blessed to have him and know that he is mine forever!

Family Love

Sunday everyone came home for dinner and Valentine fun. I had the dining room table set up with cookies and all the stuff to decorate them. In the living room I had the table set up with everything you would need to make a great Valentine. Everyone had a fabulous time and really got into it. I wasn't sure if the boys would, but they did! Big and little alike. Zachery is such a little artist, he loves to do creative projects. Brayden and Toph did a little and then ran off to play video games. It is always just fun to have everyone home and together.

Girls are so much fun!

When Maegan was in eighth grade they had dances during school. The girls would want to look beautiful for them, so my niece Amy and her friends would come early in the morning and spend forever doing their hair and making sure they looked great. These girls were such great examples to my girls, that I loved to have them around. Maegan and Kimmy thought they were the best and wanted to be just like them. Well they were the best so I was OK with that. (Thanks Amy, Lis and Leggs)

Now my girls are grown and they want to be that example to other girls. Kimmy had an idea to have the Garrett girls over for a night of beauty. We went and bought all kinds of make-up, polish and hair care products and invited the girls over for a fun make over. Maegan and Kimmy did their hair, painted their nails, taught Melissa how to put on make-up and helped them all to make some great jewelry. We had pizza and snacks and even went out for ice cream. It was a fantastic night and I know my girls loved it.These girls have such beautiful fine hair.Marandra was right there watching and listening to everything Kimmy told Melissa. She knows it will be her turn soon enough.Maegan did french tips and cute little flowers on all of the girls nails.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSH!!

Happy Birthday Josh!!! I can't believe he is 27. I really don't have a problem with me being 45 but I can not comprehend Josh being 27. Where has my little boy gone? Now he has two little boys to raise. One things is for sure I have no regrets to this point. Every minute of his life I have enjoyed. When he was little we would play for hours in his play room. When he was older I went to all of his games and enjoyed his friends at our home. And in High School, I was at the school all the time helping him. Now that he is an adult, we have stayed close, talking about everything. I love the wife he has chosen, she is wonderful, and he brought two great little boys into our lives. He has always been kind, patient loving and understanding. He has kept us busy and on our toes. He came to earth an old spirit and has taught us much. We are so blessed to have him. We love you Josh!!!

Lesson in gratitude

I've had to do some hard things over the last two days and by doing them I have learned to be grateful. I had to fire 13 people and as for the rest of my 55 employees I had to cut their pay by $2.00 an hour. I really hate this part of my job. These are very tough economic times and there really aren't many jobs out there. Some people were angry (and they had a right to be) but most people were just happy they still had a job. I realized I need to be very grateful that my husband and I have jobs. I also realized that we are blessed in so many ways. I think I take for granted the fact that we can by food and pay our bills, and even have money to do some fun things. I realize how very important it is to save for the hard times that are sure to come. I need to be grateful for the small things in life, I'm grateful for trails that remind us of all we have.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIMMY!!

I can't believe that she is 18. She has been so much fun all her life. Her energy and excitement for life is contagious. She is kind and loving and is always looking out for the underdog. She loves to read, shop (especially finding a great bargain), working out, children, friends, and family. She has a testimony of the Gospel that leaves me in awe. She is an example to me in every way. I love her so much and feel very blessed to not only have her for my daughter, but also my friend.

We took her to the Gateway to go shopping for her birthday. I told her she had $100 and to make the most of it. Boy did she ever!! She got 2 pair of jeans, 1 pair of cargo pants, 2 pair of leggings, 4 sweaters, 2 tops, 1 dress and a hat. Can that girl shop or what? I was so proud!

Here are just a few of the friends that came to her party. It was a great night of Rock Band, You Tube and just hanging out.

Should pretty girls make ugly faces. She does an ugly face almost every time I want to take her picture. I try to tell her that all of our memories will be of this, and that when her children look at these they will think something was wrong with her.
